The WhammyPhone is a new addition to the music technology especially for musicians to create a different musical expression with ease. It’s not a new technology now in the mobile phone world. As we know LG, Samsung and Nokia has already introduced flexible/ bendable smartphones and smartwatches. LG G Flex was introduced in 2013 and Samsung Galaxy Round Smartphone was also launched in the past. In recent days I come know that Xiaomi, a famous Chinese mobile phone manufacturing company is also making flexible displays for its upcoming Xiaomi smartphones.
The WhammyPhone is a developed at HML(Human Media Lab) in Queen’s University of Canada. It was unveiled last day in Human Computer Interaction Conference at Tokyo, Japan. According to demonstration and Youtube video shown below, following are the features of this bendable phone.

How The WhammyPhone Work ?
This Phone act as a virtual guitar and violin when connected with a computer system running with a synthesizer software. It actually works virtually and the user can produce different sounds by pressing its FOLED (Flexible Organic Light Emitting Diode). The Phone screen contains the sensor, when pressed or, bent, it produces new sound expressions. According to project director Dr. Vertegaal:
“WhammyPhone is a completely new way of interacting with sound using a smartphone. It allows for the kind of expressive input normally only seen in traditional musical instruments.”
Exploring Tangible Audio Manipulation Using Bend Input on a Flexible Smartphone is the main theme of this cell phone. The WhammyPhone really helps DJs and sound composers and musicians to explore different kinds of sounds very easily without any physical device. This is really a great innovation not in mobile phones industry but also for music industry too.
